FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT

Assessment is the process of gathering data. More specifically, assessment is the way instructors gather data about their teaching and their students’ learning (Hanna & Dettmer, 2004). On the other hand, formative and summative assessments are very helpful in assessing the learning progress of the students as well as the teaching strategy of the teachers. Formative assessment happens before the lesson, during the lesson, and after the lesson to seek information about the knowledge and learning progress of the student. It is also helpful to teachers to find areas that could be improved more. On the contrary, summative assessment is used after the instructional process to determine students' learning.
